Marten Mingus Septet: Precision and Power in Perfect Harmony

The Marten Mingus Septet epitomizes high-end loudspeaker design, merging advanced materials with expert craftsmanship to create an audiophile-grade listening experience. As a four-way, seven-driver speaker, the Mingus Septet offers the power and performance of Marten’s larger models like the Mingus Orchestra, but in a more compact, room-friendly form. This design choice makes the Septet ideal for those who seek the ultimate in audio fidelity without the need for a large, dedicated listening space. Engineered for full-range, immersive sound, the Mingus Septet captures every nuance of music with remarkable clarity and precision.

Custom Driver Technology

At the heart of the Mingus Septet are its custom-designed drivers, which have been developed through extensive research and innovation. The 1-inch diamond tweeter delivers high-frequency sounds with exceptional accuracy, extending up to 40 kHz. This tweeter is crafted from diamond, a material known for its extreme hardness and rigidity, which allows it to vibrate quickly without distortion, even at high volumes. Complementing the tweeter is a 3-inch beryllium high midrange driver, which ensures smooth and detailed reproduction of upper midrange frequencies. Beryllium’s lightweight yet strong properties contribute to a fast transient response and high efficiency, making it an ideal choice for high-performance drivers.

Bass and Mid-Bass Performance

For the mid-bass frequencies, the Mingus Septet employs a 7-inch ceramic driver. This driver, made from a material known as sapphire, is incredibly stiff and light, providing tight, controlled bass with minimal distortion. The lower frequency range is further reinforced by two 8-inch aluminum honeycomb woofers, designed for long excursion and low distortion. These woofers, combined with a pair of 10-inch passive radiators, extend the bass response down to an impressive 23 Hz, ensuring deep, powerful bass that complements the speaker’s overall sound profile.

First-Order Crossover and Resonance Control

The Mingus Septet’s first-order crossover is a key component in its sound signature, offering open, clean, and dynamic audio reproduction. This crossover design ensures perfect time and phase coherence, meaning that all frequencies reach the listener simultaneously, preserving the integrity of the original recording. The cabinet, crafted from medium-density fiberboard, is tapered to reduce sound reflections and is finished with seven layers of precision lacquering. This meticulous construction not only enhances the speaker’s aesthetic appeal but also contributes to its acoustic performance by minimizing resonance.

Premium Components and Isolation

Marten has also collaborated with IsoAcoustics to develop Marten Isolators, which are used to separate the cabinet from the floor. These isolators effectively reduce resonance and distortion, allowing the Mingus Septet to deliver a clear, focused soundstage. Internal wiring is handled by Jorma, a Swedish company known for its high-quality copper cables. These cables ensure signal integrity and contribute to the natural, transparent sound that the Mingus Septet is known for.

Customization and Upgradability

For those seeking even greater performance, the Mingus Septet can be upgraded to the Statement Edition. This version includes Jorma Statement internal cables and enhanced crossover components, further pushing the speaker’s capabilities. Whether in its standard form or as the Statement Edition, the Mingus Septet delivers a listening experience that is both powerful and emotionally engaging.
